In the late 1940s, the Miles Davis Nonet recorded the groundbreaking sides known as The Birth of the Cool. The music was composed by such greats as Gil Evans, Gerry Mulligan and John Lewis. The tunes below are from a concert performed at the Lensfest Center at Washington and Lee University. The first half featured note-for-note performances of the entire Birth of the Cool album with trumpet great Marvin Stamm in the driver's seat. The second half featured original compositions written by my brother Terry for the same unique instrumentation. Click on the News tab for more info about the concert. (Photo by Judy Kirtley)

Big Band Drum Solo
This is an improvised short piece utilizing the MIDI aspect of the Roland V-Drum electonic kit. All the sounds are played by me in one pass by having the pads trigger sounds other than just drums.
